WHAT IS AMAZING ABOUT "PI"?

Greek word ‘pi' represents the ratio between circumference of a circle to its diameter. Its approximate value is taken to be 3.1416 or 22/7. In fact, the fraction 22/7 is slightly greater than pi. The Greek mathematician Archimedes asserted that the value was between 3 10/70 and 3 10/71.

The strangest thing about it is that nobody has been able to calculate its exact value. Computer scientists have now computed pi to over 100 million decimal places.

At one time pi was considered to a fraction. But unlike in fraction no repeating pattern in pi's decimal digits could be found. Finally in 1761, a Swiss mathematician Johann Heinrich Lambert proved that pi is not a fraction.
